The Department of Education under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities offers the Bachelor of Arts (Education) degree. This is a three-year programme covering six semesters each comprising 17 weeks. In order to graduate, a student has to successfully complete a total of at least 118 Credits including teaching practice in first and second years of study. The programme is in response to the ever increasing demand for academically competent and professional secondary school teachers.
Upon completion of the programme, the graduate is expected to be able to: 1 demonstrate mastery of subject content, high competence and skills in teaching; 2 effectively apply participatory approach and cooperative teaching-learning; and 3 raise educational issues with regard to teaching, school management and administration, teacher professionalism as well as teaching and learning environment.
NB: Education students are required to take a combination of two teaching subjects.
Core Courses: * Compulsory course ** ED 122: Teaching Practice I is done in first year second semester. The marks are recorded in the second year first semester results. ED 248: Teaching Practice II is a second year subject. The marks are recorded in the third year semester II results. *** Teaching Subject course. Students take 2 teaching subjects.
