The Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) participated in the Conference on Internationalisation of Higher Education in Tanzania, held on 19 June 2026 at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha. The conference was organised by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) through the Tanzania Internationalisation Strategies for Higher Education (TANZIE) Project under the theme “Strengthening Internationalisation Strategies for Higher Education in Tanzania.”

The conference brought together university leaders, internationalisation officers, and higher education stakeholders from across the country to discuss strategies for enhancing global engagement, academic mobility, research collaboration, and institutional partnerships. The event provided an important platform for sharing experiences and best practices in advancing internationalisation within Tanzanian universities.

Representatives from the Muslim University of Morogoro, Prof. Salum Haji and Dr. Halidi Lyeme actively participated in discussions on strengthening institutional capacities to engage in international academic networks, promote staff and student exchange programmes, and foster collaborative research with international partners. The conference also explored opportunities for cooperation with European universities and examined practical approaches to overcoming challenges associated with implementing internationalisation initiatives.

Speaking during the event on behalf of the Executive Secretary of TCU, the Vice Chancellor of Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, highlighted the importance of internationalisation in improving the quality, competitiveness, and global visibility of higher education institutions.

MUM’s participation in the conference reflects the University's commitment to strengthening its international profile, expanding academic and research collaborations, and providing students and staff with greater opportunities for global engagement. The knowledge and networks gained from the conference will support the University's ongoing efforts to align its academic programmes and institutional strategies with international standards while contributing to national development.

The TANZIE Project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to enhance the capacity of Tanzanian universities to integrate internationalisation into their policies, strategies, and operations, thereby fostering greater participation in the global higher education
